 Using the theme of ‘nature’, I created a piece that shows the nature of a bird that contrasts with the books frozen in place and is freed from the barriers of stereotypical thoughts. The bird, expressed with diverse tones of watercolor, adds a sense of liveliness that could not be seen through the background of black-and-white pencil-drawn books. In this work, the freedom gained by breaking the mold of existing knowledge is expressed as a shining bird; as you can see, it emerges from the broken fragments and enters the boring and lifeless pupils. Another special aspect of this artwork is the pieces that form after the background breaks. The letters from the textbooks scatter, then naturally spell out the word “freedom” along the direction of the bird’s movement. To emphasize this, I raised the height of the letters using a styrofoam board. Finally, this hand symbolizes those of students like me. I wish those stressed about solving fixed answers feel more freed through this artwork.
